How to install Quiet Denim™ Batt Insulation
Quiet Denim is a recycled denim batt insulation that friction-fits into standard wall and ceiling cavities without special tools or protective gear. It is safe to handle bare-handed, itch-free, and can be installed by homeowners and contractors alike. This guide covers everything you need to install Quiet Denim correctly in walls and ceilings.

Before You Begin
Inspect the area thoroughly before installing. Look for any existing moisture, mildew, or structural issues and address them before the insulation goes in. Insulating over a problem traps it. Fix it first.
One guideline to keep in mind throughout: there should be no gaps anywhere insulation is installed. If a section doesn’t fill the cavity cleanly, cut a piece to fit. Performance depends on full, continuous coverage.
Step 1: Measure & Cut
- Measure the height and width of each cavity between the studs or joists.
- Lay the batt flat on a stable surface.
- Use a straight edge and a marker to clearly mark your cut lines.
- Cut to size with a serrated insulation saw.

Important: Do not compress the batt when cutting or fitting. Compressed insulation loses its R-value. Let it fill the cavity at its natural thickness.
Step 2: Install in Interior Walls
- Position the cut batt at the top of the cavity and press it gently into place between the studs.
- Allow the batt to friction-fit. Consider stapling the batt to the top of the cavity opening.
- The batt should sit snugly and flush with the face of the studs, with no gaps around the edges.

Installing Around Obstacles:
- Electrical wires: Split the batt lengthwise and fit it around the wire so the cavity is fully filled on both sides.
- Pipes and ducts: Cut the batt to fit tightly around them. Continuous coverage is what blocks air movement.
- Electrical boxes: Trim carefully around the box so there are no open gaps that could allow air leakage.
Step 3: Install in Ceilings
- Press the batt firmly up between the joists.
- The batt should sit snugly with no gaps around the edges.

For additional reinforcement in ceiling installations, use insulation supports or wire hangers to help secure the batts.
Step 4: Install in Exterior Walls
- Position the cut batt at the top of the cavity and press it gently into place between the studs.
- Allow the batt to friction-fit. Consider stapling the batt to the top of the cavity opening.
- The batt should sit snugly and flush with the face of the studs, with no gaps around the edges.

- Take extra care to cover every area and opening. Exterior walls are the primary thermal barrier, and gaps in them directly affect energy performance.
- A vapor barrier may be required depending on your climate zone and local building code. Check local guidelines before finishing the wall.
Step 5: Vapor Barriers (If Required)
In high-humidity climates or moisture-prone areas, a vapor barrier protects both the insulation and the structure.
- Once the insulation is in place, lay the vapor barrier over the insulated area.
- Fasten it with a staple gun.
- Make sure the barrier is continuous and seal all seams to block moisture infiltration.
Step 6: Post-Installation Check
Before closing up the wall or ceiling, do a final inspection:
- Every cavity should be fully filled with no visible gaps or compressed sections.
- The insulation should sit flush with the face of the studs or joists.
- No electrical boxes, pipes, or wire penetrations should have open air gaps around them.
- Collect and dispose of any offcuts and packaging. Store unused batts in a dry, protected area. They’ll stay in good condition for future projects.
